One-point Goppa Codes on Some Genus 3 Curves with Applications in Quantum Error-Correcting Codes

We investigate one-point algebraic geometric codes CL(D, G) associated to maximal curves recently characterized by Tafazolian and Torres given by the affine equation yl = f(x), where f(x) is a separable polynomial of degree r relatively prime to l. We mainly focus on the curve y4 = x3 +x and Picard curves given by the equations y3 = x4-x and y3 = x4 -1. As a result, we obtain exact value of min...

Unordered Error-Correcting Codes and their Applications

We give efficient constructions for error correcting unordered {ECU) codes, i.e., codes such that any pair of codewords are at a certain minimal distance apart and at the same time they are unordered. These codes are used for detecting a predetermined number of (symmetric) errors and for detecting all unidirectional errors. We also give an application in parallel asynchronous communications.

Some error-correcting codes and their applications

Error-correcting codes were first developed in the 1940s following a theorem of Claude Shannon [14] that showed that almost error-free communication could be obtained over a noisy channel. The message to be communicated is first “encoded”, i.e. turned into a codeword, by adding “redundancy”. The codeword is then sent through the channel and the received message is “decoded” by the receiver into...

Error - Correcting Codes and Applications to Large Scale Classification Systems

In this thesis, we study the performance of distributed output coding (DOC) and error-Correcting output coding (ECOC) as potential methods for expanding the class of tractable machine-learning problems. Using distributed output coding, we were able to scale a neural-network-based algorithm to handle nearly 10,000 output classes. In particular, we built a prototype OCR engine for Devanagari and ...

Synchronizable Error-Correcting Codes

A new technique for correcting synchronization errors in the transmission of discrete-symbol information is developed. The technique can be applied to any t-additive-error-correcting Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem code, to provide protection against synchronization errors. The synchronization error is corrected at the first complete received word after the word containing the synchronization error,...
